Best selling singles of 1962

About this compilation . . .

These Top 20 singles chart listings are based on sales statistics compiled by the 'Record Retailer', 'Record Mirror' and 'Music Week' music papers.
The chart positions may differ from those quoted by the BBC who, until 1968, compiled their own chart from a compilation of various pop papers.

After 1967 the chart positions became standardised when 'Music Week', The BBC and The BPI started using weekly charts compiled by the
British Market Research Bureau.
For the same reason, the eagle-eyed among you will notice, there are some slight differences in entries between
this and my A-Z chart statistics. Please don't let me know exactly what they are - this is due to a different compilation source being used.
There is no right or wrong 'official' chart before 1968. You pays yer money an' you takes yer choice!

It was not uncommon for records to share positional listings i.e. there may be more than one record in a particular chart position in any given week
- these are not misprints! And finally, ( we are SO good to you! ) to make viewing easier......

No1 hits

Beginning week ending 24th March a top 50 was listed by the Record Mirror. A new source of statistics was used for this and therefore the 'last week's position' figures for that week only did not correspond with the previous week's chart listing
